My work as a Marine Biologist takes me to all corners of the world. There are grand, vast spaces; there are tiny pockets of life; there are areas of great fecundity; there are 'wastelands' that harbor thousands of species if one cares to look closely. And all of the world's natural landscapes are beautiful.

Pass, Alaska:
Glaciers, waterfalls, wildflowers, and mining ruins add some spice to the hike up Crows Pass, as if any is needed.
The alpine pass is the highest point on the historic Iditarod Trail and one of the finest day hikes in Southcentral Alaska. Arctic ground squirrels, marmots, and mountain goats inhabit the high country near Crow Pass, and bears, moose, and Dall sheep are frequently spotted too.
